Windows Mobile 5 on Audiovox SMT 5600

I just got an Audiovox SMT 5600. I’ve got it running Windows Mobile 5 and here’s how I did it.

First I hit thepiratebay.com, searched for “windows mobile 5” and downloaded Windows.Mobile.5.ROM.Pack.For.HTC.Typhoon.C500.SMT5600. The nfo file contains instructions for flashing the ROM however mine came with the latest Smartphone 2003 image and could not be upgraded. So I used a post at modaco.com to start the down-grade process. This article provides a link to an Orange ROM which was still too new to perform the Mobile 5 upgrade so I followed this article at mobismart.net to downgrade further to a 1.0 image. At this point I was able to reflash up to the Mobile 5 image successfully.

So far I have not found any software that works with this version but I’ll keep you posted.

  1. So how do you like it? Does everything work? I heard the camera photo quality sucks after upgrading to wm5. Your thoughts please ;)

  2. Everything works really well with the exception of the camera. The quality does indeed suck and the video option is totally unusable. After hitting record the phone just locks up until you hit stop. The resulting video is just a single frame with no audio.

  3. you guys still tracking this? Does wm5 work OK? I have an issue where I unlocked my 5600 via web instructions. It is unlocked, but when I go to Singapore the networks can be manually selected and this thing loses network and signal easily. This does not happen in the US, where the Cingular account always keeps me locked in and works well (but in CT, where I live, that is only signal, I think).IF I load wm5 it might clean this up, as well as improve other areas. I never use the camera anyway.

  4. i just did the special hacked 5600 and it works perfect.. camera is a BIT slow but useable.. lose some editing but gain on the fly zoom.. cool!:) voice dial is gone but other then that its perfect!!
